"New Vfx Production milestone in Argentina"

HANDS OF STONE

This film tells the story of the panamenian world champion boxer: Roberto "Hands of Stone" Durán (a.k.a. Manos de Piedra).

After our work in the Academy Awarded "The Secret in their Eyes" we were hired to create almost 800 vfx shots! for this great film production starring the two time Academy Award ® winner Robert De Niro, next to John Turturro, growing hollywood actors/actress like Edgar Ramírez and Ana de Armas plus special participation of Usher & Rubén Blades.

This was possible thanks to have been involved in this project from early stage before preproduction (as it SHOULD BE!). This let us developed a proper vfx production design. The results talks by itself...

The film was acquired by The Weinstein Company, it was the biggest release in the USA for a latin-american production. Furthermore, it was a big cornerstone for our vfx studio life.

We've reproduced all the cg crowded stadiums that take place in the story which was along Duran's youth, covering from 60's to the 80's. We've created the monumental Madison Square Garden, New Orleans Superdome and Montreal Olympic Stadium while the actual shooting took place in small stadiums from Panamá City.

Also, we made cg environments and set extension giving an old style look for New York City, Las Vegas and Panamá Locations (Airport, Administration Building, El Chorrillo and the Canal Zone) in that period of time.

Fully CGI shots were also created and more thanks to have been built the best vfx team of artists from Argentina. It was possible thanks to all of them. Team work!.

 

We've got at that time a true production milestone in Argentina becoming in the first studio managing a whole Hollywood production as the only vfx vendor."

Featuring: Never seen unleashed Camera Moves in a boxing film! with cg crowds and backgrounds.

3D & 2D Digital Crowds "IN-HOUSE System" was implemented.
We've created more than 150 unique CG assets/agents mimic the color palette and look´s clothing from 70´s. We also designed a 2D live action footage library registered from a selection of 300 extras that where filmed on a second unit which were lead by our on-set supervisor asking them to do cronometrically different actions/behaviors.

But prior all this, nothing could have been possible without the perfect camera matchmoving process that matches not only anamorphic lenses but also real spherical fish eyes!.

Featuring: Full CG Shots with full CG Environments and Set Extensions.

From cg airport tarmac, aerial views, Las Vegas, New Orleans and New York 70's skyline views to recreate also digitally the old historic (60's & 70's) places from Panama City using matte painting 2.5 and 3D techniques plus a bunch of compositing work.

We've also created several additional plate photography doing second units direction to achieve street life including background elements adquisition (textures, hdri, etc.) to enhance or fully digitally create the whole shots in CGI.
